What is max pain?
Max pain is the strike price at which total intrinsic value owed to in-the-money option holders would be lowest if the underlying settled there at expiry. It is derived from open interest across strikes, not from price prediction alone.
Retail traders use it as one expiry-week reference alongside support/resistance and PCR.
How to use this tool
Copy call and put OI per strike from the NSE option chain for your chosen expiry.
We evaluate each strike as a hypothetical settlement price and pick the one with minimum total intrinsic.
If two strikes tie, the lowest strike is shown. This is a model output—not a guarantee of where Nifty or a stock will close.
